The paradox of partnering is that the better you get, the less strength you need. Strength required is inversely proportionate to technique acquired.
Before every partnering class, I will teach yoga, with some pilates and calisthenics designed to increase flexibility and strength. There will be an emphasis on alignment which is very important to safe partnering. Students will learn the basics of sharing weight: how to lift and how to be lifted, balance points, counterbalance, the use of momentum, cantilevers, buttresses and reciprocals. We will examine the idea of human sculpture and how to make transitions into and out of these sculptural moments.
